The annual Fête de la Musique (World Music Day) was held in Manila yesterday, showcasing more than a hundred Filipino musical acts. Thousands of music fans jammed an entertainment complex in Pasig City, within which eight venues hosted different musical genres - pop/alternative, rock, jazz, electronica/goth/new wave, reggae/ska, hip-hop/R 'n B, and world music. (The world music stage featured bands like Unitiima and Kadangyan who use traditional musical instruments.) The turnout was so huge that several venues turned away many festival goers because they were already jampacked.

This year's Fête, first held in the country in 1994, was organized by a local music magazine, with the support of Alliance Française de Manille and the French embassy.
